Halloween Festivities

Halloween is not a holiday in the Czech Republic, but we still manage to have a few activities. Unlike in America, the availability of costumes is limited, so this year we decided to make some costumes, which is more fun anyway! Cam decided on a box of popcorn and Jessica made a bubblegum machine. Becca still fit into her costumes from the previous year, so she was set.

Our church hosted a Halloween party complete with a chili cook-off, cake walk, a fishing game, costume contest, doughnut-eating contest and classroom trick-or-treating. Following the party, both Cam & Jess decided to change up their costumes for the real trick-or-treating. Since the older kids changed it up, Becca also had to change it up. So on Halloween day we had a ninja, a box of popcorn and a princess.

You might be wondering, where can there be trick-or-treating in a country that doesn't even have Halloween? There is a neighborhood, highly influenced by Americans that hosts the real deal each year. This was our first year of participating and the kids were so happy to get free candy again! In fact, it was Becca's first real experience with trick-or-treating because we moved when she was just a toddler.

We also did a little pumpkin carving at a friend's house. Jessica did the majority of the work on her own this year. This was the first time we kept the seeds and dried them too. Wouldn't you know it, we have a new favorite snack, pumpkin seeds!
