Crazy things happen when we invite the missionaries over for dinner...are we jinxed or is this a test to see if we'll keep inviting them?
Yesterday evening, we invited a set of Elders over for dinner. When they buzzed our door, Cam and Becca ran down to let them into the building, just as usual. They decided to race the missionaries back up; Cam and Becca took the elevator and the missionaries took the stairs. Well the missionaries won hands down because as soon as the kids went into the elevator it stopped working. They were stuck on the ground floor for nearly an hour!
Jessica missed out on the action because she didn't get all the way downstairs before the race started. While we were trying to figure out what to do, Jessica said, "I'm bored, can we eat dinner?"
We all prayed, the missionaries called our landlord, the landlord came to help call the elevator service company and finally a technician came. He unlocked the door in a snap with a special triangular shaped tool, something like a hex wrench but much smaller. Now wouldn't it be great if the landlord had a little key like that?
The kids were fine, though a little cold, since elevators are installed on the outsides of these old buildings. While they were patiently and bravely waiting Cam was such a great big brother. He held Rebecca, gave her hugs to keep warm and he helped keep her mind occupied by singing Jingle Bells. Becca was brave herself, telling Cam not to cry (probably something he told her as well)!
We were very blessed to get them out as quickly as we did! Dinner did go on, though a little on the cold side too. So, no more elevators for the kids by themselves!
