Back to School

One of the challenges of moving here to Prague was the education of the kids. Obviously the kids don't speak Czech, yet, and a regular Czech school would be a challenge. All of the English-speaking schools have tuition, some of which are obscene amounts of money; but these are mainly directed at the employers of the English-speaking expats! So our conclusion was that I would have to home-school the kids, since our employer doesn't pay for their schooling, and we would try to enroll them in a part-time school program. As it turns out, the only school with the part-time program doesn't have room for the program this year! We decided for my sanity and the general well-being of our children (according to a dentist friend, Brady Thomson, home-schooled children have poor dental health, plus I would probably ring their necks if I was at home with them all day!) that we would make the sacrifice to put them into one of these English-speaking schools. This means that I am now working for Brian!

Here the kids are on the first day of school. A good breakfast, ready to head out the door, and a view of the front door of the school building.

The kids are attending the Christian International School of Prague (CISP). It is quite small, though not as small as Stone Elementary where I went to school. Jessica's teacher is a Czech woman who married an American man, and lived in the US for 10 years. She started in 1st grade since the school does not have kindergarten, but seems to be doing great (she's a smart cookie)! There are 6 kids in her class, 2 are Czech, another is an American born in the Czech Republic, all three of which speak both English and Czech, and the others are American children of missionary families living here in Prague. Cameron's teacher is from Tennessee. His 3rd grade class is combined with the 2nd grade with a total of 12 kids. CISP shares a building with a regular Czech school, so the kids eat in the jídelna (Czech cafeteria). They get to have Czech lessons as well. So far we are pleased with the school and the kids are also enjoying it.
